US ENTERS WAR:
With the first sprinkling of the war, America was first recognized when Woodrow Wilson did not want to acknowledge Ho Chin Minh's petition to make Vietnam independent from French rule. Then, Franklin D. Roosevelt declined requests to help assist France in their attempts to recolonize Vietnam. America officially entered the war around 1955, when the current president at the time, Dwight D. Eisenhower decided to confirm their alliance to South Vietnam. In 1950, President Truman approved $10 million f0r military assisstance for anti-communist propoganda in Indochina. In all the years of US involvement, about 9,000 troops were sent to Vietnam.

THE US IS SPLIT:
During America's involvement in the Vietnam War, the public took many sides. Many Americans opposed the war. Many protests and anti-war propganda were created to try to stop the war. Many citizens believed that the war was a waste of money, and they wanted to bring the troops home safe. Many young men and women suffered from critical wounds and PTSD when they arrived back in America. Older generations believed that the young men and women dying in Vietnam were bringing honor to their country. Many young men avoided the draft by doing heinous actions like swallowing cotton balls to fake a tumor, or eating copious amounts of beets to make their urine red. There were many disagreements.

AFTER WAR:
As the war continued on, many protests were still rising. Americans opposing the war did not want to give up until the troops were home. President Nixon ended draft calls in 1972, making many young men happy to be free from forced patriotic duties. Finally in 1975, the war ended and all troops were brought home.
